This is a genuine handmade forged iron pendant. Horseshoes have long been considered lucky. They were originally made of iron, a material that was believed to ward off evil spirits, and traditionally were held in place with seven nails, seven being the luckiest number.
The lucky horseshoe is a big part of Irish folklore and history. The story of Dunstan and the horseshoe varies greatly depending on where you look. But the gist of the story is that in the 10th century, St. Dunstan (a blacksmith at the time) was visited by the devil himself. The hoofed devil asked for a horseshoe for himself. So then, Dunstan nailed a red hot horseshoe tightly on one of his hooves, and the devil howled in pain. The devil begged for Dunstan to remove it. Dunstan agreed under one condition -- the devil must respect the horseshoe and never enter any place where one was hung above the door. Because of this, people believed that the horseshoe could keep evil spirits out of their homes, and thus bring in (or keep in) good fortune.
Pendant diameter is 1.5" by 1.3" inches (40mm by 35mm). The pendant comes on a black fabric or waxed cotton cord.

We can only make small engravings on some of the forged iron pendants.
For bronze and silver items it's best to clean with a polishing cloth or jewelry cleaner which will give them a shine. But for those who like a more authentic look and feel for their jewelry which develops patina overtime, there are really no special care instructions.
For forged iron items, it's a good idea to coat with a clear acrylic lacquer or wax to avoid rusting and keep off water as much as possible.
For leather items, it's also best to avoid prolonged contact with water because leather is a natural material and can deteriorate with time.
We currently don't offer gift wrapping or packaging, but some pendants and rings come with optional leather pouches.
